Emma, based on Jane Austen's novel of the same name, follows Emma Woodhouse, a wealthy and clever (but spoiled) young woman living in the English countryside. Convinced she has a talent for matchmaking, Emma meddles in the romantic lives of others – especially her new friend, Harriet Smith. However, our heroine's "disposition to think a little too well of herself" often causes her schemes to run awry, and the story follows Emma's journey toward self-awareness, compassion, and genuine relationships with those around her. With Jane Austen and her sister Cassandra as the play's witty narrators, Emma is a fascinating romantic comedy that explores themes of social class, pride, misperception, and the complex nature of marriage, love, and friendship in Regency England.
